CCA Skeeball Rules

Golden Rule

1. Groups must have at least 6 rollers on their roster to be elevated to Team status. It is encouraging that teams have 6-8 rollers on their roster for the times when individuals are unable to attend.

2. Each team will have a captain, who will be the official representative to the league and will be responsible for communicating messages from the league. A co-captain is also highly encouraged.

Gameplay

1. A match will consist of two teams rolling 10 regular frames and one specialty frame. Each frame is one full game with 9 rolled balls. Every team member present and able to play must roll at least one full frame (9 balls).

2. Each team must have a minimum of 4 rollers per game. No player may roll more than 3 frames in any given game. If only two or three players show they may play but no more than the prescribed 3 frames per person.

3. Teams will roll on the same lane throughout the match.

4. Every ball must be rolled while standing with both feet on the ground and located behind the machines (i.e., no rolling from the side of the lane) Violating this rule will result in a score of zero for balls rolled during the infraction.

5. Any shot thrown while observing the previous rules and counted by the machine (including Bank shots) are permitted.

6. Balls that fail to enter the scoring zone and roll or otherwise return to the thrower are able to be re-thrown.

Scoring

1. Each Roller will roll one full frame (9 balls) as their contribution to their team’s score.

2. Games will be played in a best of 11 series, with the first to 6 frames won the winner. In the case of a tie on a frame, then the frame is considered a draw and game play will continue until a team has won 6 frames.

3. Games will be a maximum of 20 minutes, if 20 minutes comes then the game will be called at the current score.

4. To start the game the first roller of the first frame will be decided by Rock, Paper, Scissors. If there is a question of who is to roll first in a frame with the team that won the previous frame will roll first.

5. Spirit Points: Teams have the ability to win extra points based on creating an organized cheer, Spirit points will be accumulated for tie-breakers on playoff seeding and the team that creates the best cheer of the scheduled time slots will receive a prize courtesy of CCA

A.  Teams that create a cheer using their opponents name as inspiration (either in a supportive nature or tongue in cheek) will be weighted heavier in the eyes of the judge. Teams may create a cheer for their own team name or otherwise supporting themselves and can still be eligible to win if the league manager deems their cheer leaps and bounds above the others.

C. Time limit & other details: Spirit cheers must be completed by the end of the 7th frame concludes. Teams may not excessively hold up the progress of the game to compile a cheer at the last moment.

6. After the 6th frame of each match, a mystery round will be played. The mystery round will count towards the best of 11 series.

A. Non-Dominant Hand: The rollers will compete against each other using their non-dominant hand to roll. Total score will determine the winner of the frame.

B. Relay: Each member of the team present will roll one of the 9 balls. If less than 9 players are present the team will rotate through their players in the same order as they began the frame. (I.E Rollers Bob, Jane, Jack, Kelly, will continue in the same order until all 9 balls are rolled) The team with the highest score wins that round.

C. Speed Relay: Same rules as the above game, Relay, but the frame will be decided not by the total score but by the first team to have their machine count all 9 balls rolled and the game to be declared over, indicated by the flashing score or the Game Over message.

D. Blind Folded: One roller will be blindfolded and led to the machine where they will roll one full frame (9 balls). Teammates may assistance through verbal direction but are not allowed to physically aid the blinded folded roller. The top score between the two teams wins the round.

E. Skee-off: Teams choose one roller from the opposing team to compete against the player the opponents have chosen from their team.

F. Low Score: Roller with the lowest score in the frame after rolling all nine balls wins the round.

G. Price is Right: Host designated a specific score and the roller closest to that score wins the round.

Scoring or Machine Malfunctions

1. Players are advised that the league plays on a variety ages, models, and styles, of machines and that scoring errors, are an inescapable aspect of the game. When a scoring error is made it is the responsibility of the witnessing party to IMMEDIATELY bring the scoring error to the attention of the other team and host. If both captains are able to agree upon the alternation of the score to fix the machine error the game may continue. If captains are unable to agree then the host will make a judgment ruling given the testimony of the captains and their personal knowledge of the machines. The ruling will be in the form of a score alteration and will be considered FINAL. Scoring errors do NOT result in rerolls or voids of frames.

Playoffs

1. Playoffs will be played up to two weeks in a single elimination tournament with seeding based on team’s record throughout the season. A tie-breaker will be decided by Spirit Points. If still tied a staring contest will be played, with the first person to blink being the loser.

Sportsmanship

1. Teams & Rollers are encouraged to introduce themselves to their opponents prior to the start of each frame.

2. Teams are encouraged to “line up” after their match and shake hands, give high fives, or otherwise congratulate their rivals.

3. To coordinate and run the league, our refs and/or staff will be available at all times to help the league run as smoothly as possible. If you have questions regarding schedules, policies, rule interpretations, directions to the bar, etc. please ask or call our office.

WAIVERS:

In order to participate in the league, each participant must sign the team waiver. Waivers are provided and must be completed and handed in no later than the first night of play. Players not present the first week of play will still be required to sign a waiver with our staff before participating. These waivers will also serve as your final roster.

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY:

Any protest made during a game or after a game will NOT be considered a formal protest.  A formal protest may be filed before a game if an opposing player’s eligibility is in question. The player in question will be required to provide his/her player information (ID) in person to a CCA staff member prior to the start of the game. This qualifies as an official protest and only applies to the playoffs. The game will then be played in its entirety as scheduled. Teams will be notified of all rulings on the identified eligibility discrepancy by the following business day – decisions will not be made on site. If the protest is proven to be legitimate, it will result in the forfeiture of the game in question. Games subsequent to the protested game may be rescheduled.
The above procedure will also apply for any other “logged” protests. All protest need to happen prior to any match/game starting, otherwise the match/game will stand as a legal match. All rulings by CCA staff are considered final. Substitutes are allowed during the regular season, but only roster players are allowed for the playoffs.  Any player(s) who has a season ending medical condition, moves away, or has another circumstance deem able for a substitute player must be approved by sending a formal email to bryan@ccasports.com.

SPORTSMANSHIP:

The idea of CCA is to have fun. We hope that all participants keep that in mind when becoming involved. Although the games may become intense, you still can be competitive while maintaining good sportsmanship. With this said, any behavior deemed unacceptable by staff may result in suspension and/or ejection from a game or the league.

Leagues may be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances CCA staff makes every effort to play all scheduled games, thus we will not cancel games unless absolutely necessary. Therefore, if you are calling concerning a decision on a cancellation, remember we will not have an answer until close to the start of the league.

If the league is cancelled, CCA staff will post all notices on social media sites (Facebook/Twitter).  CCA will then email/text all of the captains if possible. If a league is cancelled on site, CCA staff will attempt to contact those teams still scheduled to play the remainder of the league day/night. Depending on the time of cancellation, some teams will have to be notified on site. In extreme circumstances, CCA reserves the right to run a shortened season without a refund or schedule matches on days and/or locations other than our regularly scheduled league day/night/location.
